Emergency Services
When disasters, large or small, strike, the American Red Cross provides shelter, food and health services to individuals and families who are affected. From care for hurricane evacuees to providing home cleanup kits to tornado victims, the Mid Alabama Region is here to help. The DAT (Disaster Action Team) volunteer program responds to the scene of disaster to assist people in crisis.

Health and Safety Services
Every year, the American Red Cross prepares millions of people to save lives through health and safety training. Our training programs include First Aid, CPR and AED, aquatics and water safety, swimming lessons, HIV/AIDS prevention and education, and care giving programs. The Red Cross is committed to keeping people safe at home, at school, and in the workplace by teaching people not only how to respond to emergencies, but also how to prevent them.
Our service delivery options include on-site training, as well as regularly scheduled programs that take place at Red Cross locations.

Service to Armed Forces
Both active duty and community-based military can count on the American Red Cross to provide emergency communications that link them with their families back home, access to financial assistance, counseling and assistance to veterans. Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces personnel work in 756 chapters in the United States, on 58 military installations around the world and with our troops overseas.

Project SHARE
Project SHARE provides emergency assistance to our elderly and disabled neighbors who need help with their energy bills. Clients in need apply for Project SHARE assistance with the American Red Cross office in their county. Project SHARE is administered by the American Red Cross and is funded by utility customers who donate through their monthly bills.

Volunteer Services
American Red Cross volunteers provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Your local Red Cross chapter can work with you to provide rewarding experiences, whatever your schedule. We need people with all kinds of different backgrounds, talents and skill levels. And, if you need training, we’ll provide it.

Blood Services
American Red Cross Biomedical Services plays a critical role in our nation’s health care system. It is the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, collecting and processing more than 40 percent of the blood supply and distributing it to some 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. The Red Cross also plays a leading role in protecting the safety of donors and patients and increasing the availability of blood. It has been among the first to help develop and implement testing for infectious diseases and is frequently the single major contributor to clinical trials to improve blood safety. Providing life-saving blood and blood products to patients is a key component of the Red Cross mission to help people in times of emergency and disasters.
